Canterbury Tales - Saint John’s Literary Festival

www.ctlf.ca

This annual spring event, a three-day celebration of the written word, aims to encourage the promotion of the meaning and importance of literature and literacy to all.  The festival is a community project that offers a host of opportunities for published and aspiring writers as well as readers to come together in their common appreciation for the meaning and importance of literature.  Its aim is to not only provide access for established and aspiring writers to aid in forging and strengthening a rich and multi-textured literary community, but also to promote literacy to a wide public audience.

The Canterbury Tales Literary Festival especially takes pleasure in reaching out to schools and institutions of higher education that share common goals in increasing public awareness of the importance of reading/writing skills, as well as opening discussion between all sectors on the value of literature and literacy.

The festival is open to the public and all are encouraged to take part in the array of writers’ workshops, reading seminars, authors’ lectures, and other special events.  Whether you are a published author, an aspiring writer or a general lover of literature, The Canterbury Tales Literary Festival offers the chance to celebrate the written word.

Our literary awards program includes the following:

a) The Lieutenant Governor’s Cup - Writing Contest open to adults (18 +). 1000 words or less titled “Explain your choice for Favourite Maritime Author”.

b) The Mayor’s Cup – Writing Contest open to high school students of Greater Saint John. A 500 word essay titled “The importance of literary arts in the Saint John Area”.

c) The Senator’s Cup – Writing Contest open to elementary and middle schools of Greater Saint John.
100 words titled “Message In a Bottle”.

These contests create interest in the community, and provide a vehicle to encourage students to participate.

The three-day festival is held annually, the 2nd week of May, in the Saint John FREE Public Library Saint John, New Brunswick.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Canterbury Tales Literary Festival at (506) 672-9577 or email CTLF@nb.aibn.com.
